Bass Structures: The Mark of Sound

Bass Structures is a collaborative body of work with artist Collin Schipper.  We use sound at extreme volumes to arrange paint into fractal like patterns.  The patterns that make up the work are specific to several factors.  The note/frequency that pulses through the system reacts uniquely to the types of materials used in the process. The chemical make up of the paint and surface, as well as the shape of that surface, all have a part in the equation that makes the piece what it is.

This video is of an early prototype in which we floated oil based paint in a square bed of alcohol
