Electrical burn = the smell of SUCCESS

20130423-181055.jpgLast week turned into one seriously crazy week.  The Bass Structures equipment went up in smoke…. But, after some new amp parts, a visit to the audio engineer, and 2 new speaker setups, we are back on line!  The one that Collin was working on actually shot out a 6 inch flame!

And, this is how Collin and I know that we are on the right track.  We are now on rigs 8 and 9 😀  Can’t wait to show them off  Tomorrow at 8pm! (click the link for event info and tickets)

Todays Featured RAW Artists

First, I would like to express that my heart goes out to all of those who were effected by the bomb blasts at the Boston Marathon.  The person(s) who carried this out were not only evil, but they were also cowardly.  There is a sweet knowledge, though, that the community surrounding the disaster was so quick to respond.

Here, USA Today has been compiling a list of ways that you can help.   It is a developing story, so check back for updates on what needs have been met and new needs that arise.

In Milwaukee-land, there is art.

add_1_25591Today’s first RAW: Milwaukee featured artist is Martha Kubic, a photographer from Chicago.  You can see her work at:

From Martha’s RAW Artist Profile:  “As a recent college graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Photography I moved to the city of Chicago to start a career as a visual artist. I work primarily with film and recently got into working with 19th century processes. I love experimenting with various methods of photography and that has been the driving force behind my work. Recently, after major changes in my life, photography has been a source of therapy for me as I document my new surroundings, my old life, my emotions and my new perspective on what it feels like to be alive.”

add_4_26025Today’s second RAW: Milwaukee featured artist is Allison Eve, a painter from Milwaukee.  You can see her work at:

From Allison’s RAW Artist Profile:  “I am inspired by my mother for always supporting me in art, my own life happenings, the stories of others, artists like Charmaine Olivia, Miss Christine Wu, Pascal Villcolet and so many more, it changes every day.”

Tickets for the April 25th RAW Showcase Event at The Rave in Milwaukee can be purchased by visiting  Hope to see you there!

Today’s Featured RAW Artists

Took a break last night in observance of Tax Day.  Hope you all got them done!  🙂

ImageScott Hatton:

from Scott’s RAW Artist profile:
I’ve been in Milwaukee now for over 18 years. Typically I like to do nature scenes in oil on canvas but have been branching out recently and diving into rustic old Milwaukee and it’s roots. My latest series titled “Gritty Milwaukee” takes a closer look at how the natural world transforms the man-made, and how rusty old things of the past can become beautiful artworks in the present. I’m an architect by trade and naturally a designer. I do many things: paintings, murals, custom motorcycle paintings, corporate logos, tattoo designs and anything else in the design realm the peaks my interest. I’ve been trying to make a name for myself in Milwaukee for many years and it’s proving to be harder than one might think. Over the years I’ve found there is almost nothing I can’t paint, so if you can dream it let me help you bring it to life!

crop_125144_avatar_1358442131Kevin’s Cutouts:

from Kevin’s RAW Artist profile:
Born and bred in Freeport, IL, my ‘story’ isn’t a very interesting one. But I started making cutouts on my grandpa’s scroll saw in the winter of 2011, and thought it would be pretty cool to make some pop-culture type art. Apparently other people think it’s cool too, and that makes me feel just all right, ya know? I never took any art classes in high school or college, and in some ways I think it helps me to do what I think looks good, regardless of what ‘should’ be done with things. I design and cut pieces in my basement on my Ryobi scroll saw and it really helps me to shut out the rest of the world until the piece is done. It keeps my mind off my regular full time job, bills, and any other stresses of everyday life. To be honest, I don’t think I’m that stressed of a person, though. I’d like to think that I’m a relaxed person that’s fun to be with. Good times all around. I think that’s all.

Once again, the RAW Milwaukee Showcase will be held at The Rave on Thursday, April 25th.  Doors open at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $10 in advance by visiting the website:

You can select which artist you would like to support with your ticket purchase, and the proceeds go to keeping the RAW: Natural Born Artists series up and thriving – supporting artists in communities like ours all over the country.  Pretty incredilbe stuff!

Today’s Featured Artists:

Julia Levine – a photographer from Milwaukee, WI

From Julia’s RAW Artist’s Profile:  “I am an 18 year old girl living in Madison, WI.  I’ve found that photography provides me with a unique perspective on the world, one that allows me to find the beauty in the ordinary and inspiration in the light.”

e.kay – a fashion designer from Chicago

From e.kay’s RAW Artist’s Profile:  “I am an artistic creature adn my medium is fabric.  I’ve been designing since before I was old enough to stay home alone, and have been creating mini masterpieces ever since.  I work between my home and studio locations – both just an hour south of the city of Chicago.  I thrive on new adventures, and being a fashion designer keeps them coming.”

Once again, tickets are $10 and can be purchased via the RAW Artists website:  April 25th at The Rave!!!  Don’t miss it!

Exciting Developments with RAW

April 25, 2013 7:30pm – 12am

There were so many people at the RAW March showcase, that we were upgraded from the Rave Bar to the Eagles Hall.
Also, the doors open at 7:30pm, so there will be some time to swing  by before the Bass Structures Performance starts.

There are going to be many artists across disciplines that will be showing off what they do.   And, I am super excited about all of it!  Now, until April 23rd, I will be writing a little about each of them, so that you can get an idea of the great things to expect.

Today’s Featured Artists:

Elle –  A Visual Artist from Milwaukee:

From Elle’s RAW Profile:  “I am an introvert with a loud mind. Art gives me a voice and allows people to visually see every side of myself that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to show. I’m not a very conventional person; I admire the peculiar things in life. When I create, I hope to discover something new about myself and also gain some insight along the way. I never shy away from change or new experience.”

Aleksandra – A Fusion Belly Dance Performer from Madison:

From Aleksandra’s RAW Profile:  “I’m a fusion belly dance performer who specializes in the electro tribal dance form. I have 5 years of dance and karate training. Music is extremely important to my performances because it is the foundational heartbeat that keeps the creative energy alive. I favor the Eastern European and North Indian cultural styles as a homage and dedication to my family and our cultural heritage. The name ‘Electro’ comes from the breath of electronic music and ‘Tribal’ comes from the tribal fusion belly dance genre and performance art. I solo frequently in the Madison area as well as a working collaborator with two dance/ vaudeville troupes touring in the midwest.”

Once again, tickets are $10 and can be purchased via the RAW Artists website.  April 25th at The Rave!!!  Don’t miss it!

Unforgettable Art

The 2013 Artist Selection Committee of Unforgettable Art: An Affair for Alzheimer’s has selected me to participate in this year’s event on Saturday, April 20.  This year, Unforgettable Art will be held at the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD).  The doors open to the public at 6 p.m. to view the final 2 hours of live painting, sculpting, and other forms of art making.  The work will then go to a live auction at 8:30.  All proceeds are donated to funding research for the cure of Alzheimers.

With the price of a ticket, you would get access to the behind the scenes process behind the work that will be on auction.  This, while enjoying live music and complimentary bar and food selections; which have been put together by the finest caterers in the Rockford area.

It is truly an affair to remember!  Hope to see you there
